Recently relegated Wigan Athletic are eyeing up a move for key Rochdale wide man Nathaniel Mendez-Laing as they prepare for life back in England’s third tier, sources report.
The 25 year old has been a powerful cog in the Rochdale machine, scoring 10 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions and proved to be pivotal in the Dale’s promising campaign where they finished within touching distance of the play-offs.
Mendez-Laing celebrates his goal against Gillingham.
The winger would be joining Wigan on a free transfer as his contract at Spotland runs out next month.
Mendez-Laing would be welcomed with open arms into a Latics side who has struggled to supply strikers and create chances. A pacey and technical man on the wing could be crucial for Wigan to bounce straight back up into the Championship.
Mendez-Laing is currently top of the Tics’ transfer priorities but more signings are expected as a lot of activity is expected at the DW Stadium over the coming months.
