The Revolving Door: Wigan Athletic’s Transfer Uncertainty since Premier League Relegation
Wigan Athletic has been a busy destination for reporters of the Sky Sports Transfer Centre since our relegation from the Premiership in the 2012-13 season. From short term loans to long term transfers coming in the door, and numerous players going out of the door for different reasons.
And it hasn’t just been a massive overturn of players, with the a real lack of managerial stability since Roberto Martinez ended his spell as manager to join Everton. Since then, Gary Caldwell has been the longest serving manager of just shy of 18 months.
In this article, I will be showing you which players and managers have joined the club since Premiership relegation, and the duration they have spent with the Latics.
In total, according to Wikipedia(make your own judgement on reliability) Wigan Athletic have signed 101 players since the 2012-13 season with 40 of that figure being at the club on loan. That is very interesting reading and suggests that there’s been little stability since the Premiership days.
On a managerial perceptive, since Roberto Martinez, Wigan have had 5 managers in the hot seat, with Gary Caldwell being the longest serving out of the selection. I have collected the statistics of the managers record at the club, with the time duration spent at Wigan.
