Former “wonderkid” Ravel Morrison has seemingly almost completed a loan move to Wigan Athletic till the end of the season, sources report.
Morrison, 23, is currently signed to parent club Lazio after leaving for the Italian outfit on a free in July 2015 and was hyped exponentially at the time of his move. He has struggled to settle into life in Italy with only 7 appearances in Italy’s top tier, coming mostly from the bench.
The rumours materialised as it was rumoured a couple weeks back that Morrison had been training with Wigan Athletic, a team currently sitting in 23rd in the Championship and hoping to turn this season around with a huge signing like the former West Ham man. Ravel was eager to join Wigan over competing rivals as he has a strong relationship with Wigan manager Warren Joyce. The duo spent time together in Manchester United’s youth ranks; where Joyce was head coach and Morrison started his career. Their friendly relationship further shown when Ravel tweeted, congratulating Joyce on his appointment to the Greater Manchester club.
Morrison returning to the area he grew up in and back in the English spotlight might be just what he needs to kick start his career as a top player again instead of watching football from the bench as he had been doing at Lazio. The signing of the pacey and versatile midfielder could also be what the Latics need to gain some momentum and rapidly close the 6 point gap between them at 23rd and safety in the Championship.
A quick glance at Ravel Morrison’s Wikipedia claims that he will wear the No. 6 at Wigan as opposed to the number 11 he wears at Lazio, a number currently occupied by midfielder Max Power. Wikipedia isn’t reliable as anyone can edit the pages but, if there is any truth in the rumour, it does strike some questions regarding Power’s safety at the club. I personally don’t believe that Morrison will take the No. 6 due to his Wikipedia saying so but anything can happen so wouldn’t cross it off.
Wigan Athletic are yet to make an official statement.
UPDATE: Our team’s sources claim that the deal may be a free transfer till the end of the season as Lazio are so eager to get rid of him. This means that Ravel will be inclined to impress for Wigan to find a new club when his contract expires. This news comes as Morrison has been openly training with the Latics.
Warren Joyce is assessing Morrison’s fitness as Ravel looks to secure a deal at Wigan Athletic and leave Lazio. The former Manchester United man has played only 7 games in a year and a half and is racing to build his match fitness and convince Joyce before the window closes.
Sources report that Ravel Morrison deal to Wigan has fallen through and he is no longer training with the Greater Manchester outfit. Morrison was reportedly not fit enough and Warren Joyce had always said it would be a “long shot”. Apparently Ravel is not training with QPR as he continues his search for a new English club.
Wigan fans, like myself, what do you think of Ravel Morrison coming to the Latics? Is he the gamechanging signing to turn Wigan’s season around? Let us know.
